project info

I've always found intrigue in attempting to do what I shouldn't. Trying to make the impossible possible. This project is, in many ways, a manifestation of that, and a very clear example of how I work, think, and function as a creative. It is a brand strategy developed for a place with a demographic so wide and diverse, that any designer with a shred of sanity would either suggest a pivot or yell away screaming. When I heard of the project, I immediately found an interest in that issue. Perhaps because my teachers always told me to be very specific when working with demographics, and that trying to please everyone meant pleasing noone. So. On that note, I went to work. The foundation for the visual development was a thoroughly researched piece of academic writing, since this was a case I used as the thesis for my bachelor's degree in design.

The foundation for the design system is to leave it almost finished, with room for continuous participation; participation from the users of Pumpestationen as well as those keeping the gears of the place running. The incorporation of users will be present in an evertchanging typographty and graffiti-like set of lines, that create coherency and change at the same time. The language of the place is all grounded in music and the lyrics of songs that we all know and love. Mostly Danish songs, but you get the idea. The idea of letting parts of the identity change over time, is something that is directly inspired by how the physical space of Pumpehuset will also be subject to change depending on how it is used and by whom. It was a fun project to create, a fun concept to research. Unfortunately, due to political indecision and corporate tardiness the project never came to be. The building, the old pumping station, is still not in use, and to this day nobody knows what will happen to it. Shame...
